That\u2019s why it so often slips out of our hands and why the story of every life boils down to the story of the tension between the urge to do the thing you want and the combination of circumstances bent on keeping you from it, let\u2019s say, your dream. It seems unnecessary to stress that this tension creates a lot of frustration. Put like this, life tends to look more like a process of breaking down \u2013 as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/F-Scott-Fitzgerald\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fitzgerald<\/a> wrote \u2013 than anything else, like some kind of title bout, where all that matters is staying on one\u2019s feet as one\u2019s ride the punches. The progress of an education, whether a contender\u2019s, for the Heavyweight Championship of the World or one\u2019s own, has always interested me (that\u00b4s why I like the Chinese proverb, <strong>\u00a0\u6d3b\u5230\u8001,\u00a0\u5b66\u5230\u8001<\/strong>\u00a0<em>hu\u00f3 d\u00e0o l\u01ceo, xu\u00e9 d\u00e0o l\u01ceo<\/em>, which means something like: <em>[If one] lives to an old age, [one will continue to] learn until old age.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Long ago, perhaps aware of the punches coming my way, I came up with a very small stratagem \u2013 sometimes, small things are crucial \u2013 to help me escape from the frustration, bad moods, or weakness, that life can deliver. The stratagem is simply a list of 10 delicious dishes I could choose from to give me back my lust for life or that energy I lacked after the latest blow. I have yet to complete the list. Moreover, a lady once said to me: \u201cLet me tell you your favourite dish\u201d. She didn\u2019t say much more, because it seems that at some point in her life she had acquired the habit of not doing so, of politeness, and converted said habit into a question of manners, like when one leaves a tiny bit of food on the plate to show one\u2019s host that the meal was abundant. <em>Oh les femmes!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3948\" src=\"http:\/\/josefelixvaldivieso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/cangrejo-5.jpg\" alt=\"cangrejo\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"http:\/\/josefelixvaldivieso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/cangrejo-5.jpg 1280w, http:\/\/josefelixvaldivieso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/cangrejo-5-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/josefelixvaldivieso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/cangrejo-5-768x432.jpg 768w, http:\/\/josefelixvaldivieso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/cangrejo-5-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Please find below my list, in no particular order, because each has its moment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chinese_mitten_crab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Dazhaxie<\/strong><\/a> (<strong>\u5927\u95f8\u87f9<\/strong>), wonderful Shanghainese river crabs, only available from late September to November (see photo).<br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tea_egg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Chayedan<\/strong><\/a> (<strong>\u8336\u8449\u86cb<\/strong>) or Tea egg: delicious eggs cooked in spices, soy sauce and black tea leaves.<br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sushifaq.com\/sushi-sashimi-info\/sushi-item-profiles\/sushi-items-maguro-tuna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Toro<\/strong><\/a> (<strong>\u3068\u308d<\/strong>hiragana or\u00a0<strong>\u30c8\u30ed<\/strong> katana), the fatty cut of tuna belly.<br \/>\n&#8211; <strong>Caviar<\/strong>, which needs no explanation.<br \/>\n&#8211; <strong>Morcilla<\/strong>, or spicy black pudding, from Leon, in northern Spain.<br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Escamol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Escamoles<\/strong><\/a>, a Mexican dish made from ant\u00a0larvae\u00a0and pupae.<br \/>\n&#8211; <strong>Spanish dry cured ham<\/strong> (jam\u00f3n ib\u00e9rico).<br \/>\n&#8211; A juice of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/A%C3%A7a%C3%AD_palm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Aca\u00ed<\/strong><\/a>, made from a Brazilian berry.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, the list is incomplete and needn\u2019t stop at 10, which when all is said and done, is simply a number we\u2019ve chosen from our habit of rounding up things, a sort of security blanket to ward off our loneliness and frustration.\u00a0By the way, another <em>femme<\/em>, French of course , said you do not forget <em>Le Champagne!!!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Life is life and not the thing we want it to be.
