He has plastered Hong Kong with Google advertisements banned in China and been beaten up while at work in Paris, but undeterred, he continues to spread his message.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.combo-streetart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Combo<\/a> is the <em>nom de plume<\/em> of a young French artist who in 2012 burst onto the international arts scene by, in the opinion of some, damaging the image of Made in China by plastering Hong Kong with Google advertisements banned by the Chinese Communist Party. But it wasn\u2019t until early 2015 when his name really hit the headlines after, according to others, he damaged the image of Made in God.<\/p>\n<p>Combo photographed himself wearing a djellaba and then pasted the portrait on a wall at the Porte Dor\u00e9e alongside the word <em>coexist<\/em> writing the c with the crescent symbol of Islam, the <em>x<\/em> with the Star of David, and the <em>t<\/em> with a Christian crucifix. It looked more or less like this:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-4411\" src=\"http:\/\/josefelixvaldivieso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Coexit-text-150x77.png\" alt=\"Coexit text\" width=\"150\" height=\"77\" \/>The outcome was that four young guys, whose identity Combo has not revealed so as not to fan the flames, beat him up after he declined to remove the graffito, leaving him off work for a week. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/combo_ck\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cFEAR NO ONE. FEAR NOTHING,\u201d reads his defiant Twitter profile<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Combo, who pays attention to detail and says his work is designed to surprise and to be found where least expected, painted the graffito above, in the Place \u00c9mile Goudeau. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/\u00c9mile_Goudeau\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Goudeau<\/a> was the founder of the <a href=\"https:\/\/daratheodoraart.com\/2018\/01\/15\/hydropathes-incoherents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Hydropathes<\/em><\/a> poetic movement, whose aim was to propagate poetry in the same way that Combo propagates art. It wouldn&#8217;t have escaped his attention that the <em>hydropathes<\/em> named themselves thus because of their phobia toward water and their affinity for wine. Others say the name is a pun on the name of the founder of the movement, Goudeau: go\u00fbt d\u2019eau, which means \u201ca taste for water\u201d in French.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4414 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/josefelixvaldivieso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hydropathes-combo-1024x518.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"518\" srcset=\"https:\/\/josefelixvaldivieso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hydropathes-combo-1024x518.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/josefelixvaldivieso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hydropathes-combo-300x152.jpg 300w, https:\/\/josefelixvaldivieso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hydropathes-combo-768x388.jpg 768w, https:\/\/josefelixvaldivieso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hydropathes-combo.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/>Combo is the son of a Lebanese Christian father and a Moroccan Muslim mother, but he himself isn\u2019t religious. The problem is that the identity crises prompted by the attack on <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charlie_Hebdo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Charlie Hebdo<\/a> has not only obliterated nuances, but also forced people to take sides. So when Combo wrote in Chatelet, \u201cDid you know Muslims end their prayers with Amen, like the Jews and the Christians\u201d, he was criticized for not writing <em>Je suis Charlie<\/em>. My guess is that Combo simply wants to be French, an artist, himself, and not be obliged to choose between two sides that are increasingly fractious. (1)<\/p>\n<p>For reasons unknown the world is being deprived of its symbols of co-existence. One of the few remaining examples is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hanging_Temple\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hanging Monastery<\/a>\u00a0(Xuankong Temple\u00a0\u60ac\u7a7a\u5bfain\u00a0simplified Chinese;\u00a0\u61f8\u7a7a\u5bfa<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Traditional_Chinese_characters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">traditional Chinese<\/a>),\u00a0in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shanxi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shanxi<\/a>\u00a0Province, China. Built more than 1,500 years ago, this temple is notable not only for its location on a sheer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cliff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">precipice<\/a>,\u00a0but also because it is the only shrine where China\u2019s three traditional religions live alongside each other:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Buddhism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buddhism<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Taoism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Taoism<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Confucianism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Confucianism<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/content.time.com\/time\/specials\/packages\/article\/0,28804,1995297_1995295_1995284,00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">In December 2010, Time magazine listed<\/a> it among the world&#8217;s most-precarious buildings.
